The controversy surrounding the age of film actress Elizabeth Michael alias Lulu has taken a new twist after prosecution produced evidence showing that the accused is an adult.
The evidence filed to the High Court includes a video tape of an interview involving Lulu and a TV presenter which revealed that Lulu was over 18 years of age.
Other exhibits are a statement by the accused recorded by the police after her arrest on murder allegations along with an application for a passport and a driving licence.
Lulu is charged at Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court with murdering local film star Steven Kanumba on April 7 at Sinza Vatican.
However, the advocate for the accused Peter Kibatala filed an application to the High Court seeking the court to determine the accused’s age.
The lawyer stated that Lulu had not attained the age of 18 years to merit prosecution in the court.
He wants the case to be transferred to a juvenile court.
On June 11, this year, Judge Fauz Twaibu ordered the defense and prosecution to present evidence to be used in their arguments.
For her part, Lulu through her advocate produced a birth certificate issued on July 23, 2004 and baptism certificate showing that Lulu’s age was 17 years.
The documents are attached to an affidavit sworn by her parents Lucresia Augustin Kalugila and Michael Edward Kimemeta who claimed that Lulu was born on April 16,1995.
